Younger professions
The ‘youngest’ professions in NZ include; Accountants, HR, IT, Travel and Media professionals. The most common age for an Accountant is 30 – 39. For both HR and IT the most common age is 30 – 34 but looking at Web Developers 25 – 29 is the most common age group with 82% of them being younger than 40. In the travel professions the most common age group is 25 – 29 and in the Media/Marketing professions the most common age for women is 25 – 29 and 30 – 34 for males.
Older professions
The ‘oldest’ professions in New Zealand include; Nurses, Midwives, Educational professionals and Fitters and Turners. The peak average age of Tertiary Educators is 45 – 54 and for secondary school teachers this is 50 – 54. In the Nursing and Midwife professions the peak average age is 45 – 54. For Fitters and Turners 45% of people are aged 45+.
Female domination

Amongst Barristers and Solicitors 42% are female and 58% are male but the peak average age group for females is 25 – 35 while this is 50 – 54 for males. For Accountants there are far more females than males aged under 45. Similar trends were found with Veterinarians and Planners.
